Muslim Drag Queens: Review

Muslim Drag Queens is a brand new hour long documentary on Channel 4, which follows the lives of several "Gaysian" drag queens living in Britain.

The show shows the positives and the negatives of being a muslim drag queen. The Queens recieve all sorts of abuse, some even recieve death threats.

A lot of the show is based off the unacceptance of the Queens' families. It really highlights the abuse which these queens recieve, with groups of men shouting abusive words such as "You f**king sex pest!"

The show promotes acceptance and love within the LGBT and Drag community. It follows lives of people living in big cities such as in Birmingham, Northampton and London.

I think the show is a good representation of the Queens' struggles and successes, within not just the gaysian community, but the general public. I can see how it would be inspiring to young muslim people who aspire to percieve drag as a career, or even just for personal enjoyment.

It really is touching to see the lives of such brave and self-empowered people and follow their journeys on the search for acceptance within their communities or their families.

Drag really has become more popular than ever in recent years, largely thanks to the popularity of RuPaul's Drag Race, but Muslim Drag Queens are still very unheard of.

I think it would be really great to see a Muslim Drag Queen achieve the same success that queens such as Adore Delano, Bianca Del Rio, or even RuPaul have achieved. It truly would be one step closer to full equality and acceptance withing the LGBT community.

At the end of the show, it offers a website link where you can get support for any issues raised within the show, which I thought was a nice touch, which could help many people.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the show and I think it will continue to be successful through online streaming.
