Featured Queen: Lucy Fur

Lucy Fur is a 23 year-old queen from Cardiff who performs at my local drag bar "Mary's". I followed her on Instagram after a friend of mine told me that he had seen her performing & thought I would like her (he was definitely right!) her alternative style is a refreshing and welcomed look in the drag community! Read our interview with Lucy below.

When did you start doing drag? Officially, about 1 and a half maybe 2 years ago? But I grew up with an older sister and lots of girl cousins so I'd always be dressing up. What inspired you to start doing drag? I saw what other queens were doing and I thought that it looked fun and that I could do a better job.

How does drag make you feel? Powerful, I feel like I could run the world, I'm 7 feet tall and my hair is as big as a car... How could I not feel like I'm the HBIC? Who are you inspirations for your drag persona? Joan Rivers, Patsy Stone, Courtney Love basically anyone who's funny, looks cool and is a bitch. Who are your three all time favourite Queens? Lily Savage, Divine and either Sharon Needles or Edna Everage? Do you have a specific look you like to go for, or does your look vastly vary? I always look weird, like I don't like to do standard pretty or "fishy" looks, I always do something odd. But the looks are always very varied. What would be your ultimate ambition you would like to achieve through drag? I'm a funny bitch so I'd love to do a full on stand up act at the Apollo or something similar Where do you perform?

What are some of your favourite songs to perform? I don't do musical performances but if I did id do weird shit, like hymns or lip sync to quotes from the human centipede... If you could only have 3 makeup products to do your complete drag makeup look for the rest of your life, what would they be and why? 1. Eyeliner! I wear so much eyeliner I don't think I'd be me without it. 2. Glitter (I just love the stuff) 3. White setting powder (I'm very pale) What is your one favourite piece of fashion or accessory from your wardrobe? That's a hard one... I have a gold crown that I wear a lot...

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time? The way I drink, dead. Or very high up in channel 4 What's your opinion on the recent increase in popularity of drag, due to things such as RuPaul's Drag Race? Its good in some ways because its making more people aware of drag and how amazing drag can be. But it is annoying that all these people come up to queens in clubs and bars and tell them what they need to do to "improve their drag" everyone thinks they are a drag expert now because they've seen drag race. This generation of the drag community don't have the same expansive knowledge of drag references other queens have had. All they know is drag race, they have no idea about john waters, Paris is burning, Priscilla, divine, Dame Edna, Lily Savage. That makes me sad Anything else we should know about Lucy? I like vintage horror films, rubber dresses, big hair and sleeping pills.
