Featured Queen: Aaliya Vixen

Anthony Lopez is an 18 year-old drag queen from Arizona, he started drag in 2014, when he adopted the name Aaliya Vixen. Read our Q&A with Aaliya below.

What inspired you to start doing drag?

Rupauls Drag Race! I know right, so cliché, but really! I was on Netflix one night, binge watched the entire show, and thought, " hey, i think i can do that!".

How does drag make you feel?

Drag makes me feel happy and confident! Growing up I've never felt like i fit in. I would constantly strive to fit in and worried about what people thought of me. I also struggled with discovering myself. It took me forever to realize that I was gay. I always knew I was a bit girly but would be to afraid that I didn't fit the norm. I was never able to express my feminine side until i discovered drag queens. It was quite the revelation for me because from that point on I blossomed. Drag allows me to be myself, express my creative side, and has brought confidence into my out-side-drag-life I've never been more happy and confident than I am right now in my life.

Who are you inspirations for your drag persona?

I'm highly influenced by Adore Delano, she is bae. I have been a fan of Danny for quite a long time. I just love his personality, humor, style, and drag! As for my persona, I just try to be as genuine as possible, I keep it 100!

Who are your three all time favourite Queens?

My three all time favorite queens are Adore Delano, Katya Zamolodchikova, and Pearl! My goals in life are to meet them tbh, especially Katya! Katya is life!

Do you have a specific look you like to go for, or does your look vastly vary?

I am a fishy queen so I guess I do have a specific look. It honestly depends on what I'm inspired by at the moment. I get inspired by things on a daily basis!

What would be your ultimate ambition you would like to achieve through drag?

My ultimate ambitions are to slay the game! Haha but honestly I just want to display my talent through drag and have people like me for me. I also would love to compete on Rupauls Drag Race, I mean who doesn't!

Do you perform in drag?

Unfortunately i do not perform live because in my area, it is required to be 21+. However, I do "perform" on Youtube. I share a channel called Teen Queenz with 4 other amazingly talented teenage drag queens named Miss Lady Porcelain, Cake Dairy, Britney, and Grant.

What are some songs you would like to perform?

Im more of a theme queen as I call it. I love my lip-sync performances to have themes and music to match it. So it typically depends on what I'm inspired by and what I have planned. But typically My favorite songs to perform are Vanity by Christina Aguilara, AMAZING by Hi Fashion, and anything Beyoncé!

If you could only have 3 makeup products to do your complete drag makeup look for the rest of your life, what would they be?

Foundation, contour powder, and a felt tip eyeliner!

What is your one favourite piece of fashion or accessory from your wardrobe?

My eyelashes lol, I don't have much of a wardrobe tbh.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

In 5 years time I see myself possibly on Rupauls Drag Race. I know it sounds arrogant but its true.

What's your opinion on the recent increase in popularity of drag, due to things such as RuPaul's Drag Race?

I absolutely love it! Theres still much ignorance about it but I feel that it is becoming more mainstream which has its benefits and risk so to say. But I don't think Drag is going anywhere anytime soon, its expanding and Im excited for the future!
