Featured Queen: Lolita Red

Robert Gutierrez is aged 21 and from San Antonio, Texas. Gutierrez started doing drag in August of 2014, using the name Lolita Red.

What inspired you to start doing drag?

I went to my first drag show and was really bored out of my mind and thought I could be more entertaining, so I gave it a go.

How does drag make you feel?

Drag makes me feel so empowered. There's a lot of vanity and conceit that comes with the six inch platforms and face full of makeup.

Who are you inspirations for your drag persona?

Lolita has always been an 80s pop punk princess. She's like a combination of Stevie Nicks, Debbie Harry, Joan Jett, Ke$ha, p!nk and Tiffany from Chucky. She's a total slutbag party girl.

Who are your three all time favourite Queens?

Adore Delano, def.

I like Pearl cause she's hot and super lax.

And kennedy Davenport because she slays.

Do you have a specific look you like to go for, or does your look vastly vary?

If I could, I'd go out and do shows in my 6 inch platforms, fishnets, crop top and high waisted shorts, but I have cool leotards the other drag queens make me wear because I have to be in "costumes." Haha

What would be your ultimate ambition you would like to achieve through drag?

I would love to be a voice of motivation for anyone and everyone I encounter. Lolita really just wants to make everyone feel like life is a party. If I only have 4 minutes to entertain someone and take their mind away from whatever tribulations they may have in life, I want to make it as fun as possible.

Do you perform in drag?

I do! My home bar is Babio's in San Antonio, Texas.

What are some of your favourite songs to perform?

My favorite songs are Slut Like You and Walk of Shame by P!nk or Take Me Home by Cash Cash (feat. Bebe Rexha,) they allow me to be so fun and just giddy throughout the entire song. I do like cartwheels and acrobats and stuff throughout my performances, so upbeat stuff really gets my gymnastics going!

If you could only have 3 makeup products to do your complete drag makeup look for the rest of your life, what would they be and why?

Contour, eyeshadow and lipstick.

I feel like this is all you need to really get a mug going.

What is your one favourite piece of fashion or accessory from your wardrobe?

I have this super cool leotard that has a huge middle finger on it and it says fuck you all over. It's pretty rad.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

Well, if my body is still as nice as it is now, maybe I'll still be doing drag. I'm at the university of Texas - San Antonio right now and want to become a local tv anchor for our news station so that's ultimate goals.

What's your opinion on the recent increase in popularity of drag, due to things such as RuPaul's Drag Race?

It's so cool that people can see the diversity in the world and queens have the opportunity to show off their artistic side and how drag life actually is.

Anything else we should know about your drag persona?

- I got my name from Vladimir Nabokov's book Lolita about a preteen who seduced older men.

- "I'm so much fun," is lolita's catchphrase.
