FEATURED QUEEN: ROXIE VALENTINE

Jacob Duniphan is an 18 year old queen from St. Louis who became the drag persona Roxie Valentine about five months ago. Read our Q&A with Roxie below.

What inspired you to start doing drag?

All through high school I was in musicals and in drama club. I remember being in hairspray and wanting to be Edna so bad but I wasn't old enough so I started making dresses and lipsyncing in my room (with the door locked)

How does drag make you feel?

I feel like I get to create works of art on my body and share them with the world. I love the feeling you get when someone says wow that's you. It makes you feel like you have done something amazing!

Who are you inspirations for your drag persona?

My all time inspiration for my drag character is Katy perry! I love her over the top costumes and whimsical looks. I also draw inspiration from from Bianca Del Rio, I love being a bitch and people thinking it's funny.

Who are your three all time favourite Queens?

My favorite 3 queens are Adore Delano, William, and Alaska Thunderfuck

Do you have a specific look you like to go for, or does your look vastly vary?

I try not to do the same look twice. Most queens make the same basic face they go for but I like to change it up and do a fishy look once and then go straight to a Trixie Mattel look.

What would be your ultimate ambition you would like to achieve through drag?

To win drag race duh!!! But to just be able to make a career from drag (without working fast food)

Do you perform in drag?

Does Instagram count? No I don't perform as of now because almost all clubs near me are 21+ :(

If you could only have 3 makeup products to do your complete drag makeup look for the rest of your life, what would they be?

I would have to have my glue stick to get these Catapillar's to go away. I would definitely need my foundation because I don't want to look like some crusty bitch. And I could probably use my Contour pallet for my contouring and eyeshadow.

What is your one favourite piece of fashion or accessory from your wardrobe?

I love love love my silver wig so much! It just feels so cute and can go with almost everything!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

Dead! No I see myself with my boyfriend I'm our own place struggling to pay to bills but still laughing when the power gets turned off. I hope to finally be getting so gigs so I can make some coin.

What's your opinion on the recent increase in popularity of drag, due to things such as RuPaul's Drag Race?

I think it's great it allows people to see it as art not just as a gay thing. straight people can like drag to it's fun!

I got to meet Taylor swift because I won a radio drag contest!!!
